Here are my before and after pictures for Week 2 of Project Simplify 2012: fridge and pantry. I didn’t do as much as I would have liked to, but enough to give me a little sense of accomplishment.
First, let’s start with the fridge. I actually didn’t have to do too much work there besides throw away some expired stuff. I suppose I could have wiped down the shelves and washed out the bins…but I didn’t quite get around to that.
This is all the stuff I had to throw out from the fridge. Lots of bread heels.
What I was really proud of was the pantry. My pantry consists of two cupboards, one above the refrigerator and a small one next to the stove. Both were made for someone that’s at least 6′ tall and I’m only 5’3″. Since I’m usually too lazy to get out the step ladder, I end up throwing things onto the shelves and if things get pushed to the way back, they might as well be in a black hole.
This is the one above the fridge. Notice how there’s barely anything on the top shelf and the bottom shelf shows the result of my haphazard throwing.
This is the small cupboard next to the stove. I have random spices on the top shelf. When I rummage around looking for cinnamon, they all end up falling on me. On the bottom shelf I have bags of flour and sugar, which I don’t really need that much access to since I already have flour and sugar in canisters on the counter. Doesn’t make much sense, huh?
Now spices are on the bottom shelf on a lazy susan for easy access and with the addition of a shelf, I can see everything on the top shelf.
Two more weeks to go – wonder what the assignment will be next week?
