With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I’ve been reminded to take the opportunity to reflect on how much I have to be thankful for in my life. Of course, this is probably something we should all do everyday and not just once a year, but sometimes it’s hard to remember to do that in the middle of my daily grind. So I appreciate having a national holiday to remind me to step back, look at the big picture, and truly be grateful.
There’s so much I am thankful to the Lord for that it’s impossible to enumerate. Starting with the simple but basic things – like being alive, having a place to live, food to eat, people to love and be with – to the more specific blessings of these past couple of years – a wonderful, loving husband and a healthy, amazing child. I’m thankful for the big things, like the fact that the Lord chose me to be in His purpose and placed me as a member in His Body; and I’m also thankful for the small random things, like the fact that I don’t live in an apartment with mice or roaches anymore and that my husband will always take out the garbage.
In the past few days, though, I’ve also been reminded to be thankful for things in my life that I might not consider as blessings. I’ve been reminded to thank the Lord not just for what He gives, but also for what He doesn’t give. To thank Him for all the things He does for me, and also for what He doesn’t do. I’m reminded to take my portion from the Father’s hand with thanksgiving, knowing that His heart for me is always good.
Thank You, Lord Jesus.
